SS16 Fashion Trends: How to replicate catwalk looks with high-street brands
As London basks in 26 degree heat, and the UK prepares for a long (and fingers crossed baking hot) summer, it’s time to ditch that drab winter wardrobe and update it with some summer essentials. At this year’s LFW, designers treated us to a whole array of sophisticated, tailored and out-there styles perfect for the season. But not all can afford to invest in the the pret-a-porter garments of Marni and Burberry! Swap thousand pound designer dresses for cheap and cheerful alternatives, which look great and will leave your bank balance in the black.
Check out our 6 hottest trends for SS16 – straight from the catwalks – and our highstreet alternatives which will work just as well.
The 70s are back! But this time, in a good way. Swap old fashion feathered hair and tassled garments for gorgeous festival inspired shift dresses and patterned shirts. This style was all over the catwalks this year, with the likes of House of Holland and Tommy Hilfiger showcasing the best designs.
The thing about the Seventies trend is it is likely to be short lived, and unless you are a millionaire, we urge you not to spend your well earned money on expensive statement pieces. Instead, why not try New Look’s gorgeous orange patchwork wide leg trousers – suitable for all body shapes and a bargain at just £19.99!
Take inspiration from our favourite Kardashian sisters and rock the double denim look! This major trend was a firm favourite amongst fashion houses such as Stella McCartney and Gucci, with the stunning Jordan Dunn strutting her stuff down the catwalk in that beautiful ensemble.
The great thing about this trend is that jeans will never fall out of favour – however with a designer pair costing up to £2,000, why not head to our favourite highstreet safe-bet, Topshop! The great thing is, they offer denim to fit everyone – whether it be low rise, high-waisted, skinny, flared – whatever! You name it! Starting at around £35, you can’t go wrong.
This summer it’s all about gladiator inspired knee-high sandals. This may be a trend for the brave (and tanned!) but do not feel put off. These beautiful shoes can be worn with floaty summer dresses and a leather jacket for a feminine yet edgy vibe, and offer the perfect evening shoe for those hazy summery nights. The SS15 catwalks were showered with this look, with Chloe and British fashion hero, Alexander McQueen, showcasing the very best of the warrior trend.
Don’t be tempted to splash your cash on a pair of these designer bad boys! We have the perfect alternative lined up for you from Carvela (just £120 and real leather!)
Flowers? For Spring? Original. Ok so we know whats-her-face in the Devil Wears Prada wasn’t impressed by Spring Florals, but we certainly are!
This trend will always be a firm favourite in the eyes of the fashion press, and is perfect for an outing at Ascot, a beach walk on holiday or simply a daytime look on a summer weekend. Swap the likes of Valentino or Fendi for highstreet fave, Accesorize. Check out the Floral Isabella Bag – just £32!
The Off-The-Shoulder Dress
Ultra-feminine, ultra-seductive and unashamedly sexy, we couldn’t be happier that the off-the-shoulder dress is back on the market! This little beauty was a style knockout in Balenciaga and Topshop Unique’s SS15 shows. Is it worth the hefty price tag though? We think not. Give it 6 months and it will be lying in an old drawer at the bottom of your wardrobe. So ladies, keep that purse firmly under control and go for one of our cheap and cheerful options instead. We suggest this gorgeous Lipsy dress by Jessica Wright. For just £60, this LBD is the perfect evening ensemble and has elegant graphic lines to ensure a slimming effect.
